As with all great stories, the story of Southern Charm Winery begins with friendship, food, wine and an unexpected change in weather. Thanksgiving 2007 at Myrtle Beach was a cold and windy holiday. Nonetheless, we were determined to enjoy our wine and cheese outside, so we huddled under the gazebo around our makeshift fireplace (aka tabletop grill). We're not exactly sure how the topic of opening our own winery came up, but once it did, the idea took on a life of its own. We realized we wanted to make wine that was full of flavor and pleasing to the palette. We wanted to offer something different from the everyday grocery store variety wine. We knew we wanted to introduce a new kind of North Carolina winery.
Since none of us were fortunate enough to have a 100-acre tobacco field not in use, the first question to answer was where to locate the winery. We wanted a location that would be easy for folks to find but also reflect our philosophy of a new kind of North Carolina winery; downtown Lincolnton seemed to be the ideal location. The concept of a downtown winery seemed abstract at first. However, our research and conversations with North Carolina vineyards helped lay the foundation for Lincoln County's first urban winery. We developed partnerships that would allow us access to the best fruits and grapes and give us the opportunity to create traditional custom-blended wines...with a southern twist.
July 2008 saw the introduction of our first 12 wines. Today, our wine selection features over 20 varietals and includes 13 award-winning wines. Please visit our Wine Selection page for more information on our wines.
